What Is Iberostar Waves, Selection and JOIA?
In July 2024 Iberostar rebranded their resorts under 3 new product lines: Waves, Selection, and JOIA.
JOIA became their adult-focused, top-tier, level of resorts. So Iberostar Paraiso Grand became JOIA Paraiso by Iberostar. Yes, the new, not-all-inclusive, and not-adults-only JOIA Aruba is part of this product line.
Selection remains for their top-tier family line of resorts, so Iberostar Selection Paraiso Lindo & Iberostar Selection Paraiso Maya.
Waves is a new product line for their more budget friendly family resorts, so Iberostar Paraiso Beach became Iberostar Waves Paraiso Beach, and Iberostar Paraiso Del Mar is Iberostar Waves Paraiso Del Mar.
Explaining The 5 Resorts Of The Iberostar Paraiso Complex & Their Differences
First off it’s important to understand that the Iberostar Paraiso complex is massive. Almost 2000 rooms across 5 resorts, 20+ restaurants, over a dozen pools, 2 spas, 2 fitness centers, a shopping mall. There is ALOT here, and depending on which resort you stay at is what dictates what you have access to. So to kick things off, let’s do a quick overview of each resort.

JOIA Paraiso: The Epitome of Elegance
At the pinnacle of luxury stands the JOIA Paraiso by Iberostar, formerly known as Iberostar Grand Paraiso, an adults-only haven where tranquility meets opulence. Designed with the discerning traveler in mind, this resort boasts majestic architecture, plenty of marble, spacious suites with premium amenities, and a truly beachfront location that features some amazing views. Plus they recently converted their first floor oceanfront rooms to have walkout access direct to the beach, and the first floor rooms facing the quiet pool now have walkout access to the quiet pool!
JOIA Paraiso features it’s very own spa & fitness center, separate from the main one that the family resorts have access to. The beauty of this spa is that it features a full retractable glass roof and a large swimming pool – making it perfect to escape from any sudden rainstorms!
And finally you get to savor international gastronomy across 5 themed restaurants, and perfect your swing at the P.B. Dye-designed 18-hole golf course which is located right across the street. Grand guests get discounted daily rates.
Latest Updates
As of 2023 butler service is only available for the oceanfront rooms, villas, and the presidential suite.

Selection Paraiso Maya & Selection Paraiso Lindo:
Family Luxury Redefined
For families seeking an upscale retreat, the Iberostar Selection Paraiso Maya and Lindo offer a world of adventure and relaxation. The Maya stands out as the top-tier family resort at Iberostar Paraiso with access to the amenities of all of its sister family resorts!
All of the rooms at Iberostar Selection Paraiso Maya are junior suites, making them the largest among the Iberostar Paraiso family resorts. Plus they have recently been fully renovated!
The Lindo rooms are currently undergoing renovations, with half of them already finished, and the full set of rooms expected to be done by December 2024.
Although Iberostar Selection Paraiso Lindo shares the main pool and some restaurants with Maya, it lacks the access to the Maya snake bar, French restaurant (L´Etoile), and the hibachi restaurant at Maya (La Geisha). Instead Lindo guests can make a reservation at the Beach & Del Mar hibachi restaurant called Teppanyaki Hashiru.
The rooms at Iberostar Paraiso Lindo are also smaller, placing it slightly lower in the pecking order.
Both resorts boast ocean-themed décor, recycled material artistry, and a top-rated Star Camp for kids!

Iberostar Waves Paraíso Beach & Iberostar Waves Paraíso Del Mar: Premium Comfort for Everyone
At the heart of the complex, Iberostar Waves Paraíso Beach and Waves Del Mar offer a premium experience that’s accessible to all. These resorts share 8 different restaurants, an absolutely massive pool, another activity pool, a cave pool with jacuzzi, and the promise of alot fun-filled activities. I don’t want to underplay the pool here. It is truly beautiful and has so many different nooks and areas, that you can easily spend several days at the same pool and never see the same spot. We always suggest everyone comes and explores this pool, regardless which one of the Iberostar Paraiso resorts you are staying at.
@caballerosvacations I swear the main pool at Iberostar Paraiso Beach & Del Mar stretches on FOREVER 🏊♂️🏊♀️ For everyone we recently booked at Lindo, Maya, and Grand - do not skip out on walking over to Beach & Del Mar and exploring this truly amazing and massive pool. #iberostar #iberostarparaiso #iberostarparaisobeach #iberostarparaisodelmar #iberostarparaisolindo #iberostarparaisomaya #allinclusiveresort #allinclusiveresorts #allinclusivevacation #rivieramaya #rivieramayamexico #visitméxico #playaparaiso #allinclusivevacations #familyvacations #allinclusiveresortplanner #travelagent ♬ How Wonderful - Muspace
The property at Beach & Del Mar is very lush, with an entire jungle located in the middle of it. Perfect for night time strolls, or daytime exploring! Bonus points if you find the cenote!
These two resorts are perfect for travelers seeking a blend of relaxation and entertainment without the premium price tag.

Who Has Access To What?
One of the Paraiso complex’s greatest perks is the shared access to amenities across the resorts, with certain restrictions based on the category of stay. The Grand Paraiso guests enjoy unfettered access to all the resorts, while Selection guests have a broader range than those staying at Beach and Del Mar. Facilities range from luxurious spas, state-of-the-art fitness centers, to engaging kids’ clubs and vibrant nightlife options nestled within the complex’s shopping center.
- JOIA/Grand guests get access to all the resorts.
- Maya guests get access to all the family resorts (Lindo, Beach, Del Mar), the Iberostar Water Park (slides, wave pool, lazy river), and restaurant access at all family resorts.
- Lindo guests get access to Beach & Del Mar resorts, the Iberostar Water Park (slides, wave pool, lazy river), and ala-carte restaurant access at Lindo, Beach & Del Mar resorts.
- Beach & Del Mar guests can only access those two resorts, and get unlimited ala-carte restaurant access at these two resorts. Guests staying here do not get free access to the Iberostar Water Park but can purchase daily access.

As of Summer 2024 the Iberostar Paraiso complex no longer requires reservations except for the Japanese restaurants, & the Brazilian. These are done upon arrival only. As such there are no advanced dining reservations.
Large groups that are working with the resorts via a certified Iberostar Star Agent like ourselves will have the ability to organize some group dining in advance.
What Restaurants at Iberostar Paraiso Resorts Require Reservations?
As of September 2024 the following restaurants still require reservations:
- Hashiru at Iberostar Waves Beach & Del Mar
- El Rodizio at Iberostar Waves Beach & Del Mar
- La Geisha at Iberostar Selection Paraiso Maya
- Haiku at JOIA Paraiso
How To Avoid The Timeshare/Membership Pitch When Making Dining Reservations
Please note that the concierge at the front lobby is going to be the very same person who tries to register you to come learn about the Iberostar timeshare/membership program. If you aren’t interested – just firmly say no and that you just need your dining reservations setup.
Guests staying at Iberostar Selection Maya can choose to skip this entirely, and do your dining reservations with the concierge located in your rooms building instead. These almost never push the membership program.
Guests staying at Iberostar Grand Paraiso can choose to do their dining reservations with their butler if they are staying in an oceanfront, villa, or presidential room. Alternatively Grand guests can use the concierge located in your rooms building to make your dining reservations. These also rarely will mention the membership program.
What Are The A La Carte Dining Reservation Limits?
As of Summer 2024 there is no limit on the number of À la carte restaurant visits you can do. The only limit is availability.

The Beach at Iberostar Paraiso Complex
The beach here is equally as massive as the entire complex, spanning the entire width of all 5 resorts, and continuing past them on both sides. If you head south, past Iberostar Paraiso Grand, you can walk for miles, easily reaching Playa Maroma. Just be careful of the high tide as there is a point at La Roca Emma that gets covered during high tide and is a bit treacherous to pass.
