Mexico

Welcome to Caballeros Vacations’ ultimate guide to the best beaches in Cancun & the Riviera Maya, where azure waters meet pristine sands under the generous sun! From the vibrant shores of Cancun to the tranquil retreats of Costa Mujeres, this guide is all about helping you narrow down some of the best beaches this side of Mexico has to offer! We’ll be listing out the beaches, talking about their characteristics, showing some photos, and even listing some of the all-inclusive resorts on those beaches!

Table of Contents

Discovering Cancun & Riviera Maya’s Coastal Gems

Cancun & the Riviera Maya is a stretch of Caribbean coastline on Mexico’s northeastern Yucatán Peninsula, renowned for having some truly stunning beaches, beautiful turquoise waters, and lush landscapes. As such one of the most common questions we get asked is What are the best beaches in the Riviera Maya?

Answering this is actually harder than you may think. The Riviera Maya has a very temperamental ocean, and the conditions can change overnight. Combine that with the ongoing effects of sargassum, and erosion, and you are left with some not so great beaches, and some truly outstanding gems in-between those. It’s these gems that we want to point out to you in this guide!

Navigating Sargassum Season with Ease

Even the best of beaches in the Riviera Maya can struggle during sargassum season. If you are traveling during the common sargassum season (which is generally April to October), then we would strongly suggest considering a stay further north of Cancun, like Playa/Costa Mujeres. This area tends to fare better during the sargassum season. There’s no guarantee it won’t end up on the beach there, but there’s a better chance at there being less of it. For full guide on this seasonal phenomenon, be sure to check out our article on All Things Sargassum in the Riviera Maya.
